Two men hung from trees

Alas that you were born, He said
with anguish in His heart
Your kiss a sign of peace
tore you both apart

In spite of this He did not hate
His love for you remained
But in you shame you turned away
from the friend you had betrayed

You could have changed your heart
and turned to Him again
But in your hopeless pride
you preferred to keep your pain

Two men hung from trees
against that darkening day
One died to save us all
The other to run away
